Welcome to the Small Business Insititue (SBI). The UNM Small Business Institute provides free management consulting to Albuquerque area businesses. The consulting work is done by graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in business management courses at the Anderson School of Management. These mutually beneficial partnerships simultaneously offer students the opportunity to experience first hand the challenges of sustaining a small business, and provide businesses with management assistance, expertise and guidance.
The Small Business Institute (UNM SBI) was established in 1978 at The University of New Mexico. The UNM SBI has successfully served over 600 businesses since its inception. Each semester the UNM SBI works with approximately 25 businesses. Our clients include start-ups, entrepreneurs, expanding businesses, non-profit organizations, and family businesses. We work with businesses in the service, technology, retail, and wholesale sectors.
Our services are tailored to fit the needs of our individual clients. For example, clients in need of a business plan will work with a student team who's primary objective is to develop a business plan. The student teams work with their client throughout the semester. The student teams offer counseling in the following areas: business plan development, organizational efficiency, expanding operations, non-profit management, starting entrepreneurial ventures, and strategic management.
Businesses are encouraged to apply for the upcoming semester's program.
